What is Football Canterbury’s Grace Martin Trophy?

The Grace Martin Trophy (GMT) is Football Canterbury’s prestigious Women’s top tier competition. Established in 2014, the GMT competition Mrs. Grace Martin. The competition showcases the women’s first division in a home and away 18 game round robin, and attracts players from all over Sydney who wish to play in a strong competition without the diligence of playing at the NPL level.

Who is Grace Martin?

Grace Martin’s place in the history of the Association is undeniable having served as the Association’s Registrar, Competition Secretary, and Chairwoman of the Judiciary Committee for decades, among numerous roles and duties at Association and club level for Roselands Football Club (formerly Roselands Raptors FC).

Such service earned her a Football NSW State Award in 1992. Grace has been instrumental in the creation, development and fostering of female participation in football throughout the CDSFA. She was bestowed with Life Membership in 1982 and the Association’s flagship female competition, “Grace Martin Trophy”, is named in her honour.

When is the competition played?

The GMT starts in the first week of April and runs through to the Grand Final which is usually played in the last week of August. Games are held either on a Sunday, with some mid-week night matches applicable if there are any catch up rounds required due to wet weather ground closures.

Do I need to attend trials to make the team?

Absolutely. Our GMT squads in the past are built upon selection every year. Trials usually start in January and the last available spots are filled by February.

How many squad members does the GMT team usually have?

GMT squads can register up to 20 players in a season, with 16 eligable to be played on game day.
